A Fond Farewell and an Enthusiastic Welcome!
Press Release
Released: April 29, 2005
With regret, the Canadian Parents for French - BC & Yukon Branch Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of Executive Director, Adrian Dix as of April 30, 2005.
Since Adrian joined the staff in 2000, British Columbia and the Yukon have seen an unprecedented growth in French language opportunities for young Canadians. More students are joining and staying in Core and Immersion French; nearly 20 new French Immersion programmes have been started in various communities throughout the province; and membership numbers have climbed from just over 3,000 to almost 7,000, the single largest Branch membership in the country.
Adrian has worked tirelessly to profile the work of Canadian Parents for French in the media, locally, provincially, and nationally. "Words are simply inadequate to express our appreciation for all he has done. We wish him the best as he faces new challenges," says Sherry Taylor, CPF - BC & Yukon President.
The Canadian Parents for French - BC & Yukon Branch Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Rita Parikh as the new Executive Director, starting May 2, 2005.
Rita brings a wealth of experience in the non-profit sector, both at the management and Board level. Her most recent position, with Pacific Peoples' Partnership, involved working with groups through the Pacific Rim. "Her skills in advocacy, media relations, and management have been recognized both nationally and internationally, and we look forward to working with her. Her energy, experience, and passion for developing partnerships will prove a great benefit to the students and parents of British Columbia and the Yukon," concludes Taylor.
Canadian Parents for French (CPF) is the national network of volunteers that values French as an integral part of Canada and is dedicated to the promotion and creation of French second language learning opportunities for young Canadians. BC is by far the largest provincial branch of CPF with more than 6,900 members organized in 48 communities across BC and the Yukon.
