Help For Parents Who Don’t Speak French & AGM ReportingHello all CPF BC & Yukon Chapter Representatives! I hope everyone is gearing up for the end of the school year and your summer holidays. Everyone here in the office is busy preparing for this weekend’s annual provincial Concours d’art oratoire public speaking competition. With 285 students registered this will be one of our largest provincial competitions in years! Thank you all for your efforts in ensuring students in your communities had the opportunity to participate. For the chapters who have not yet held your 2009 Chapter AGM, please note that the most important procedure to remember is that your meeting must have quorum: for most chapters this means six (6) active (up-to-date) CPF members. The most important outcome is to ensure you elect the required number of Directors of the Board - President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-President - and that you attempt to create a Communications Officer position. Once you host your 2010 AGM, please have one designated person, usually the secretary, treasurer or president, and submit your 2010-2011 chapter reporting. Every chapter is required to submit all of the requested documents to be considered active and in good-standing. http://cpf.bc.ca/ChapterReporting.html Also, please note that this is my very last Chapter Representative Update (CRU). I am sad to announce that I will be leaving the organization to pursue post-graduate studies and travel opportunities as of Tuesday, May 12th. Your contributions to citizen engagement and community organizing with the purpose of strengthening bilingual social, cultural and academic opportunities for all young students has been an incredible source of inspiration. Thank you, thank you, thank you all for everything you do. Wishing you and your families all the very best, Glyn Lewis Chapter Support & Community Outreach
p.s. The Branch will be hiring a new outreach officer over the summer. In the interim please feel free to contact Dimitry and or Robert for chapter, membership, and advocacy related issues. Thank you!
BC & Yukon Board of Directors Nomination Process Opens The nomination process is officially underway for any members interested in being involved with the CPF BC & Yukon board of directors. This is an excellent opportunity take stewardship of our organization at the provincial level. Please find attached two documents which ask for interested members to submit the relevant background information – one form is to sit on the nomination committee while the other is to express an interest in being involved on the board. BC & Yukon Board of Directors is seeking a Youth Representative. This coming AGM, our current Youth Representative Brittany Harris will be stepping down from the board. To replace her we are looking for an individual between 19-25 years of age who can bring a new perspective to the board, one connected to the students we hope to serve. If you know anyone from your community who may be interested, please let them know that the position is available. This is a great opportunity for them to learn more about politics, policy, and non-governmental organizations in British Columbia. Thank you!

French Immersion Within A Greater Canadian Context: CBC We have come across an absolutely fascinating CBC archive which succinctly communicates many of the social, cultural, and political issues facing Canadians from all walks of life as they passionately debated the notions of English-French identity from 1963 to 1982. The CBC “Road to Bilingualism” archive includes a number of activity documents which teachers, and or parents, may find of great educational value. It is also interesting to note that just below the video clips there is a link to our CPF website. http://archives.cbc.ca/politics/language_culture/topics/655/
