WelcomeCanadian Parents for French (CPF) - Vancouver East Chapter was launched in April of 2008 to meet the increasing need of parents supporting children studying French in East Vancouver.
Our Chapter consists of families whose children attend French Immersion programs at the following schools:
Hastings Community Elementary
Laura Secord Elementary
Lord Selkirk Elementary
Lord Strathcona Community Elementary
Vancouver Technical Secondary
As parent volunteers we support the French Immersion, Core French, and Intensive French programs by providing French activities for students, information and support to parents.
Our chapter will be organizing events for all children in Vancouver French programs to enjoy and these events will be held in East Vancouver. We believe it is important for children to experience French as a living language, outside of the classroom, in a social setting and we strive to create that environment in our community. Advocacy: The three Vancouver chapters of CPF have a representative on the Modern Languages Advisory Committee (MLAC). This representation gives CPF an important voice with the Vancouver school board and the local government. Past advocacy has revolved around increasing the number of French language learning programs (which resulted in a significant expansion of FSL programs in 2006), and the inclusion of ALL students in FSL. Current advocacy goals include supporting: - new FSL programs - translation of curriculum materials into French -a satisfaction survey at the end of grade 7, to help determine how to improve retention rates. The Vancouver chapters also monitor the Vancouver School Board accounting of federal French immersion funding.
We hope you will join us! News for Today : March 22, 2010 Parent Survival Night for Grades 2-4 held at L'ecole Bilingue Elementary school - more information is under "Events"
